Would leave minus 5 stars if I could. Called months after Hippo said that they cancelled my policy, but they hadn’t. Then the girl said that “she didn’t say it was cancelled”…as in herself…ridiculous. When I asked to be transferred to a manager there was just 20 seconds of silence. Absolutely ridiculous. Wouldn’t recommend ever.

Dont waste your time and money with this company. They were good first time I needed them but now that I got damages to my roof because of big storm of January 2024 , they denied my claim . this adjustor called Lisa Cleg based in Texas did not call or email me back for three month after she decided my damage are not due to storm..parts of my roof was blown away and landed in backyard . She saw all the picture . then she said you can appeal by sending me the estimates with a contractor . I did that and she said she did not receive it and I sent her again , no reply for months . I also call agent and they dont reply. I cant really cancel the policy because of CA problems of getting a new insurance . they know this and take advantage of California residents . THEY steal your money monthly before you even realized it.

Don't waste your time, you might think they sound good initially, but one year from now you will wish you'd saved your time and money. They will do everything in their power to cancel your policy each year for ridiculous reasons and/or offer no reason for why they are cancelling. You cannot speak with underwriting or inspections. They will offer no insight or extend any help to try to resolve your problems. Just "no", no explanation, no customer service, no working with you. They will just want to get you a new policy for more money. That's what it's about, finding any reason to non-renew and then write a new policy. Last year it was because there was no fire hydrant within 1000ft of insured property, when there is one across the street at 57ft. When I called my water utility they said they've never heard of such a ridiculous request. Just jump through more hoops. This year it has something to do with the water heater on a new build home. I'm not even sure what the reason for non-renewal is because they will not tell you and they will not work with you. And I'm having to go back and forth for several weeks/months and no one I speak with in any department (licensed agent, inspections, customer service) not one employee is helpful in any department. They will just keep transferring your call around and no one is helpful.

Only in agreement with everyone else. Worst customer service company EVER and this is an insurance company.

From beginning to end, just bad customer service, lack of knowledge from the sales people, and it was impossible to cancel the policy. I asked them for a call back on Tuesday (doesn't matter which Tuesday) and they called me back the following Monday (6 days later!)

I can't imagine if I had to make a claim with this company and thank goodness, I never did.

I think Hippo is trying to be "futuristic" and combine self serving AI with minimal staff. If this is the future of business, we are in a world of hurt 🙁

Worst experience ever. I just got a policy in Oct, uploaded and signed all documents. Paid policy in full. A month later got a letter in the mail stating we did not comply with signing documents. Called Hippo. Agent told me that our previous representative did not upload the docusign documents. I stayed on the line with her while we signed again and she uploaded them. She stated we would not be cancelled. I got on my account today and it shows they cancelled the policy anyway. 1 star and you can't give 0

Only choose hippo
- if no one else will insure your property
- and you need compliance for mortgage (because they will not protect you from risks)

Don't make a huge mistake by going with these guys - truly bottom of the barrel! Hippo is for those people who just want to get insurance for compliance purposes and believe that they will never get into an accident. Then they will be up a creek filled with hippos...

They might be cheap at first but there's a reason... and there's a good chance they will jack rates significantly after the first year or cancel your policy entirely! From my experience when I experienced leaking issues affecting the structure, they will try ANYTHING to try to deny payment and be rude to you while doing it! 40k damage - they tried to only pay 8k - I had to spend hours filing paperwork and in virtual court.

They claim they can "stop accidents before they happen", utter rubbish... They have no secret sauce. A simplisafe sensor is not going to stop a tree from falling on your house, fire, hail... Their differentiating factors are gimmicks or offered by their competitors. Plus, they say they are tech focused ... app + website are hot poo. What matters with insurance is being able to rely upon them should something happen. And "hippo" will probably let you down there.

Plain and simple... I am deeply dissatisfied and frustrated with the handling of my home insurance claim, which was filed with Hippo Insurance in early July. It has been three months since I submitted my claim, and I am yet to receive any satisfactory response or resolution from your company. This has led to significant distress and inconvenience for my family, especially our children, and has increased the damage to our property.

The reason for my claim was severe damage to our floors and the emergence of mold in our home. The initial incident, occured in June and left us posed to potential health risk to our family.

My attempts to seek assistance and updates regarding the claim have been extremly difficult. Numerous phone calls have gone unanswered, and messages have not been returned. The lack of communication and responsiveness from Hippo Insurance's customer service has left me deeply dissatisfied to say the least.. they don't even deserve a single star IMO.

Furthermore, the damages to our home have only worsened over time. The mold issue, in particular, is a pressing concern that requires immediate attention to prevent further harm to our health and property.

I would like to emphasize that as a policyholder, I have faithfully paid my premiums to ensure that my home is adequately protected in times of need. However, the delay and negligence in processing my claim are unacceptable, and it is my right as a customer to expect timely assistance and resolution.
DO NOT SUSCRIBE TO HIPPO INSURANCE AS THEY ONLY TAKE YOUR MONEY!!! WITH NO COVERAGE WHEN REAL PROBLEM OCCUR

I INITIALLY trusted that Hippo Insurance will prioritize the well-being of its customers and take immediate action to rectify this situation
Unfortunately, this has not been the case, and my concerns have not been adequately addressed.

My experience with Hippo Insurance has been disappointing, marked by significant delays in processing my claim, poor customer service, and worsening damage to my home. I hope that my feedback serves as a warning for anybody who would like to use them for house insurance . Please do not!!

It is my sincere hope that Hippo Insurance will take this review seriously and take immediate steps to improve its claims processing and customer service practices. Every policyholder deserves to be treated with respect and receive timely assistance when filing a claim.
