I am posting this so that those of you who are coming up on needing to get signed up for Medicare have a great resource for HELP in choosing the plan you need. I just had to do this for the first time back at the end of last school year when I retired, and I was panicked about this process. Luckily (VERY luckily) my bestie Gayle Govednik gave me the name of the PERFECT person for me to see and get help from. THIS woman, Alandra, is AMAZING, and I want to spread the word about her. She will steer you in the right direction. She is a broker, and she gets paid for selling some of the plans that she sets people up with. OTHER plans she does NOT get paid for. One would assume that all she is going to show her clients are plans for which she will get paid, but this is NOT the case. Case in point here, that would be ME, is that when I retired and saw her for advice, she showed me, literally, ONE plan. PeraCare. Because I was retiring out of the schools/PERA, and because it was the right plan for me. I had told her I did not have a lot of money to spend, and how fearful I was about affording ANYTHING, and she showed me PeraCare. It had everything I needed, and I could afford it (this one came with a subsidy last year which reduced how much it was going to cost me every month). She did not bother to show me anything else, because this was a great fit for me. I did NOT know THIS fact at the time, though, that she did not get paid for setting me up with PeraCare. Nothing. You do not pay her to see you, her services are FREE to you. She gets paid by the insurance companies that she works for, not you. Let me say this again: YOU do not pay her to help you set up your Medicare plan, not a dime. Before she sees you, she'll have you tell her about yourself, about what you feel your needs are, and then, when you actually see her to sit down and pick something, she will have appropriate plans to show you. YOU choose. You ask questions, and more questions, and she knows all the answers. YOU will choose what you need, and you will have all of the information about what it is you are getting and how much it will cost.

My point in putting this referral out to you all, is that it is not terribly often that I am SO in awe of a person that I want to tell everyone about them. Gayle told me about Alandra back when I was in the retirement process and I needed to have the BEST help I could get. I knew NOTHING, not one thing, and I was panicked, as I said before. Alandra took care of me, and I got signed up, and here I am, I lived to tell the tale. The story for THIS go round, THIS year, is that PeraCare was no longer the right one for me. THIS year, the PeraCare premium went up, and there was no longer a subsidy, so I literally could no longer afford it. I was VERY disappointed, too. But Alandra got me taken care of again, showing me another GREAT plan that I could afford, and I am back in the saddle. Did she get paid for this one? I honestly don't know, I didn't ask. It doesn't matter to me, personally, here in the moment, for this go-round. What I am telling you here is that you have a person there to help you, an honest, VERY knowledgeable person, who can help you navigate this ridiculously difficult journey. We are old, and it should NOT be so hard for us, so confusing, so crazy, but it truly is, and without a GREAT person to help you, you could be in real trouble. I was SO panicked about this stuff, until I met Alandra, and I am alive and well. Call her. Tell her I sent you, just so she'll know. I don't get paid either, of course, but I do like to share great information about great people whenever I can, so there you go. It might feel like it's going to kill you, but it won't.

Alandra is so Great at her job! I thought I was all set in keeping medicare the same as last year. Of course on Dec 5th I received a letter from Humana telling me my cardiologist will no longer be in the Humana Network. (That's 2 days before the medicare deadline mind you!) Panic set in as I can't lose my cardiologist whom has literally saved my life! After 6 pm on Dec 5 I emailed Alandra in hopes of her help even though I knew she was probably swamped with the deadline so close. I didn't expect a response but hoped. Not only did she respond so promptly she did so with at least 3 options that she had looked into and thought were best for me! I was blown away! The next morning I was trying to look through my options & still needed some guidance so I emailed Alandra again. Before I knew it my phone was ringing, it was this Wonderful human, Alandra! With a confident, calming, most knowledgeable, caring personality her voice was a gift to hear! She so patiently went through my options while also "listening" to my needs. She made me feel she had all of the time in the world for just me. May I remind you it was Dec 6, one day before deadline! She took my situation where I was panicked to where I felt so at ease now understanding all I needed to with my choice of insurance. If anyone is in need of a Medicare agent, Alandra Mothorpe is not only Excellent at her job but is a kind, reassuring and beyond nice person/human/woman!!!
