Two years ago as we were contemplating selling our small business and real estate. We hired Scott Porter to do our business tax returns because of his background in real estate.

Over the last two years he did complete our tax returns but here is the experience we have had in dealing with Scott. There is a severe lack of communication as Scott does not return emails or phone calls, he does not followup on what he says he is going to do, and does not pay attention to the information and details provided to him.

In our final dealings with Scott, he was asked to look over the details of our small business sale and provide in sight as to the capital gains. After two months of promising to get back to us he sent two separate emails of which the first said the gain is $89000, in the next he said it would be $700,000. Both are incorrect. In addition he was asked if the Colorado Homestead Exemption would apply to reduce the Colorado capital gains on the real estate of which he had no reply to.

Last years tax return we had to call him out on a capital gain calculation that was incorrect due to the fact he did not pay attention to the balance sheet and journal entries provided. We were billed for the time he spent doing our return incorrectly and fixing it. In addition, we were told that he would not file our return until a bill from 8 months prior for an email was paid. We had no recollection of ever receiving a bill and was told that is correct, he is a bit behind on his billing.

In summary, Scott, is overwhelmed, unresponsive, very poor at communicating, and does not follow through with items he promises to address.

Excellent firm! Scott is an expert in Real Estate taxation matters and is also an investor himself, so he provides excellent perspectives from both sides. Also, he has clients at different stages/scales of business maturity, so his advice is very thoughtful and stage/scale-specific. His team is also amazing - the person we worked with (Ashley) is one of the most efficient, thoughtful and high-integrity people I've ever worked with taxes on!

You cannot go wrong with Scott and his firm! I highly recommend them
