I had originally posted a negative review about OAIC and now need to apologize because the issue I encountered was a third party error and no fault of OAIC. OAIC paid my dad's life insurance policy within a month of losing my dad without any issues or hassle. Thank you Old American Insurance Company.

The Old American Insurance website's user interface (UI) design is terrible!! It is obvious that a user-centric approach was never prioritized. How difficult would it have been to get feedback from actual users in the test phase of the design before launching a site? But, I should not be surprised because, had it not been for Covid, they would have NEVER offered an e-app alternative to agents!!

Just called the customer service supervisor who had a bad tone from the start of the conversation. We asked for her to email or fax a surrender form and she said she could email it but will not because she wanted to mail other options. I told her that it was urgent and to please email. She said she would not do it. I then asked to speak with someone different and she said no she is the manager and she will not allow me to talk to someone else. I called back and THANKFULLY spoke with Jana who was so nice and so helpful. She explained that if we did not want to wait for it to be mailed, all we needed to do is write on a paper a written surrender notice and they would send her a surrender check. EASY. Wish the supervisor was as helpful and kind as Jana. Maybe they would have kept business.

Wont answer the phone. Had an accident with one of their customers. Its been almost 2 months and they wont return calls, answer calls or messages.

After years of being with this company, my elderly mother changed bank accounts to a new bank and OAIC didn’t get one of her payments. Instead of taking a verbal authorization over the phone or a payment over the phone, they sent her a letter in the mail expecting her (at 87 yrs old) to remember every part of a conversation about how they wouldn’t just take her payment when they were speaking with her. Instead, they chose to spend the next 3 years adding interest to her missed payment and would not dismiss the extra charges.

Today 1/29/2024, I spoke with numerous customer service representatives trying to get value letters on policies my husband has with this company. The first representative was very kind and considerate of my issue and I resent my POA. She said to wait one hour, which I did. I then spoke with Barbara S. who tracked down the POA, explained the policies to me and said she would get the letters emailed to me. Since this was a rush request to help me get my husband placed in Memory Care, I did call back. I could not understand the name of the representative who answered. She explained that they would go out by end of day. I simply asked if she could verify the last names spelling on the email address. She became very indignant and mean. I was shocked and hurt by this kind of treatment. She then yelled at Barb to make sure she spelled the name correctly. I received my letters directly after this exchange. Barbara and representative 1 are top notched and care about their customers. Customer Service Rep number 3 should not be a representative for this company. She is a mean and ugly Karen.

BEWARE of this outfit. I more or less got talked into buying this life insurance by a very likable, professional, (and smooth talking) young man. (My wife was present!) When I got to figuring how expensive it was and the fact that I really didn't need it, I tried to cancel it and cash it out. The policy was a drop in the bucket compared to what I already had in savings. They made it very difficult to cancel. Including mailing correspondence to an old address that the post office didn't even deliver to me anymore. They clearly knew and had on record my current address. I even purchased the insurance when I was living at my current address. Underhanded!! There were other hoops they required me to do to cash out the policy. That was just the most outrageous. So they were able to continue charging me premiums without cashing out the policy. Sneaky!!
I do not recommend anyone to do business with this outfit.

My grandmother bought my policy when I was still a kid. When I grew up she transferred ownership to me. One of the few places left where you can call and actually talk to a live person with no trouble at all. They are very kind and they get right on top of whatever it is I'm asking for. They email me whatever I need within minutes of me requesting... Great insurance company
