I opened a checking account and self-directed brokerage account with Axos, initially pulled in by their promotion. The checking account appeared to be without issues, with the exception of the listed annual percentage return not matching on the website and on the app. But I transferred securities from an Etrade account to the Axos brokerage account, and I have never seen or experienced this amount of incompetence and negligence with a bank in my life. Here are the problems:
- Axos had listed on the app that the purchase date of the stocks I transferred was the date of the transfer (the stocks had been purchased years before)
- The cost basis was 0, and the information about the stocks having to do with whether they were in the positive or negative made no sense.
- About 10 phone calls and a handful of messaging threads, each resulting in promises that someone would get back to me (no one did)
5 weeks later I gave up and went to the BBB website to see if I wanted to file a complaint and found abysmal reviews and even ones that scared me with customers who couldn't get their money out of the bank led me to quickly start getting my money away from them. Rather than paying another transfer fee to move the stocks, I sold them, not knowing what the heck Axos will be reporting for tax purposes since the information made no sense at all about my stocks on their site. Thank God I didn't have that much money with them. I considered SoFi because of their promotion but quickly found horrible reviews on BBB about them as well. I decided to just stay with my local bank who has been in business for much, much longer than these internet banks and have very few complaints. Don't get sucked into promotions until you research complaints on BBB or other sites!

This bank is a JOKE. You can't pass a verification of your identity if you don't know every cross street within a mile of your house and don't pick the closest one out of 5 possible. What the hell does that have to do with verifying me? Skip this "bank" folks. They are most like a scam.

I opened a personal Axos Bank account after having issues with a local credit union. Axos is an absolute waste of time, don't even bother.
The customer service is a joke, no one has any idea how to solve a problem.
The banking itself is painstakingly slow. I takes 7-10 days to complete ANY purchase or transfer so you never have an idea of what's actually in your account.
Their "high yield" savings account is a sad 0.61% and is only earned if you have enough money in the acct. I get 4.5% (no typo) through Go2 Bank!

Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere, anywhere else besides Axos.

What an absurd financial institution; if you can call it that. They have you jump through hoops to get a business account with them and then disapprove you for the simplest technicality. Then, when you press them for answers, they say to you "Why are you in my grill so hard with these questions?" Or, when I was having difficulty signing up with them on their website and called in, the girl tells me she can't stay on the phone with me to help insure that I successfully complete the sign-up process because she has a meeting to go to. Seriously?! This place is literally run by teenagers and early twenty-somethings who don't know what the heck they're doing. Thanks so much for wasting DAYS of work. Now, that I've had some good time to Google other online banks, I've found several so much better and more professional than Axos. If this is how bad they are when you're trying to become a customer, imagine how bad it'll be when you already are one and have your money with them. I don't trust these guys anymore.

My experiences with Trust Company failed to meet even minimal expectations. When it was discovered the company had been sending incorrect (IRS) reporting (multiple years) it not only precipitated a tax consequence, but also re-filing fees. The aforementioned mistakes certainly must have Impacted many participants...All attempts to communicate with the company - inclusive of legal representation - (to find possible resolution) were met with disrespect and even non-response from the C level. A very tough experience that lacked any semblance of “customer service” or accountability.

During the 40 years of practicing dentistry and using several different Self Directed 401k custodians, I have never had to pay 1% of my assets when moving to a different custodian. Luckily, Charles Schwab has stepped in to defray this gouge.
