Had health insurance for the year of 2023 and cancelled after that due to moving to a job that provided me health insurance from a different provider. Fast forward to the end of 2024, I found that I had been signed up again for an Elevate plan for 2025 without my knowledge and was given a bill in the mail for almost $300. Confirmed that it wasn't a scam from a fake company posing as Denver Health by seeing if the new account number existed on the "pay my premium" page, and the account absolutely exists.

I truly do not understand the poor reviews these folks at the hospital are receiving. I have received nothing but exceptional care from Denver Health since my insurance began in February. I was able to schedule an appointment with my primary care doctor on the same day I called. She got me referred to an ortho and less than two weeks later I had gotten an MRI and a surgery scheduled for a knee injury. I just got surgery yesterday after less than two months with DHMP. Thank you Denver Health for helping me get back on my feet and my life back! Words cannot express how thankful I am to be in such good care. Huge Shoutout to Dr. Ian Backlund and Dr. Jarrod King!!!

Elevate's health plan and Denver Health Medical are just terrible, really pathetic. I had my primary care doc send in multiple referrals which Denver Health's appointment center miraculously never receives. I asked repeatedly for them to just make the appointment - nope, let me speak to a Manager - nope. They make a French bureacracy look efficient, inspiring, and good at customer service. I'd like to think they are savvy enough to just want to not provide care to save money. But I dont think they are that smart or organized. If this group wasn't entirely supported by government funding they would be out of business. My bad I didn't realize when I signed up I'd be getting Soviet style health care! Oh man for anyone considering Elevate's plans - dont do it unless you dont need any actual health care.

I am extremely disappointed with Denver Health Medical Plan (DHMP) for its unethical and irresponsible decision to remove all GLP-1 medications from its formulary without notifying members. These medications, including Zepbound, are clinically proven to treat obesity, hypertension, and even reduce risks of heart disease, sleep apnea, and neurodegenerative diseases.

During open enrollment, I was misled into thinking my coverage would remain the same. There was zero communication about this change, leaving me—and countless others—stuck with an insurance plan that no longer provides access to critical medication. Now, my only option is to pay $1,200+ per month or go without treatment.

As a nonprofit insurer, DHMP is supposed to serve the most vulnerable members of our community, but instead, it has chosen to prioritize cost savings over patient health. This is not healthcare—it’s negligence.

If you are considering DHMP for coverage, be warned: They make major decisions without informing members, limit access to necessary medications, and leave patients without options.

I urge DHMP to immediately reinstate GLP-1 coverage and commit to full transparency in future formulary changes. Patients deserve better.

Elevate Health Plans has been the worst health plan I have ever experienced. Getting insurance was a challenge when my family moved to Colorado after the enrollment period ended. From the beginning, there were issues with customer service. Supervisors were never available, and communication could always have been better. I paid my enrollment fee over the phone because my Member ID would not be processed for another 7 to 10 days, which prevented me from making a payment online. Even though the payment came out of my bank account, it didn't show in their system, leading to harassment for a missed payment. I had to provide a bank statement to prove the payment and requested removal from the harassment list. I still received phone calls and letters every week.
The following month, Elevate Health double-charged me and refused to reimburse. After several frustrating calls, 28 days later, I reported the payment as fraud and got reimbursed from my bank.
When the time came to use the insurance, I discovered that you can't search for a doctor online or make an appointment. All appointments are scheduled over the phone at their call center on a first-come, first-served basis. As luck would have it, there were no available appointments for the next two months, with the first available being a one-hour drive away.
Unable to use the insurance, I canceled the plan and opted for a more expensive Naturopath Doctor. I hope my experience will help others avoid the frustration of choosing Elevate Health Plans. I plan to sign up with Kaiser during open enrollment in November.

The website for Denver Health states: "You may receive your COVID-19 vaccine at any convenient vaccination site. The cost of the vaccine will be completely covered by Denver Health Medical Plan (DHMP) at no cost to our members." The last two times my children have received the COVID vaccines Denver Health has not covered them even though we have paid for plans that include this coverage. Twice I have had to appeal this denial, requiring me to spend hours on the phone on hold and talking to representatives that deny this practice. It's frustrating and unbelievably unfair for such deceptive business practices to continue. EDIT: I am adding the following based on the entirely non-substantive "response" from Denver Health to this review below. We paid for medical plans that cover COVID vaccines and this was part of our promised benefits package. To require me to appeal denial of coverage for COVID vaccines for my children on two occasions is simply bad business practices.

In response to the "response from owner" posted December 9th, 2024: I cancelled my health insurance with you and posted this review six months ago. Respectfully, I provided ample feedback about why I was "unhappy" during the time I was your customer. The appropriate time to address it would have been then. I have no intention of spending any more of my time on the phone discussing my problems with your organization.

UPDATE AFTER TRYING TO CANCEL: I have had the most horrible experience with Denver Health. Not only did I receive very poor medical care, but I also was overcharged for a physical exam, which I disputed, and never received a follow up.
I finally was able to sign up for a better health coverage and went online to MyChart, which Denver Health advertises as being their online member portal. Through MyChart I was able to select my coverage and choose to cancel it. After doing so, It showed that it was "PENDING REMOVAL". I never received a follow up, but when I logged on to MyChart, I could not access my coverage and it stated that I was not currently enrolled in any plans. Therefore, I assumed that I would not be charged, but that was incorrect. I was still charged $246 for my December premium, even though I canceled on November 12th. I attempted to call several times, even asked to receive a call back, which I never got. After being transferred to 6 different representatives, I was finally told that I can't cancel my coverage through MyChart or through Denver health AT ALL, yet NO ONE contacted me about this, they just proceeded to charge my account. Horrible experience, and they refuse to give me my money back. DO NOT USE DENVER HEALTH INSURANCE! I will be sticking with Kaiser. The worst insurance I've ever had. Their online client portal is terrible. Out of pocket costs for just a Covid Booster is outrageous. Will be shopping for new insurance. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
