I like Essence as a whole, but I recently had to move to a county where Essence doesn't have any plans, I was in St Louis County and moved just recently to St Francois County and now they are disenrolling me out of Essence... They have plans in Jefferson County and Washington County but why not St Francois County? I had surgery planned and now need to reschedule until I get a new Medicare Advantage plan...

I am so grateful that my Essence Medicare Advantage Plan helps me stay healthy by providing access to the SilverSneakers program. I go to class virtually everyday and feel stronger than ever. The Flexcare card is also a great perk. And if I need medical care, I can go to one of the best institutions in the country, Barnes Hospital/ Washington University.

Essence started using Express Scripts January 1 to manage their pharmacy formulary & mail orders. I have had nothing but headaches since then. They changed drugs that were formerly tier 1 drugs to higher tiers. One of mine escalated to a tier 4 with a $95 a month copay. I believe they did this to make up for monetary shortfalls with the new medicare guidelines for drugs. So disappointed in Essence. It’s become no different than most greedy healthcare insurance companies who seem to think they can tell you what you can do about your healthcare!

My medical office just signed on with this insurance company. I called them and I found a plan that I like. I called and talked to real nice rep. Now after doing my homework, and seeing all these negative 1 star reviews, I am having second thoughts. Looks like I am back where I started from. I am going to call my medical provider to see if they have problems with them as well. 2stars only because I am having doubts.

Their coverage is very poor and took forever to authorize something as simple as therapy for my parent. They also made doctors jump through hoops to cover anything, and also many healthcare providers don’t even take essence. Disappointed with their advantage plan. We switched away from it back to regular Medicare.

I asked my pcp for a referral for my husband, we go into the office together, for a year and a half. So instead of a stitch when we asked for the referral, he has a big skin graft from the cancer they removed from his nose. She’s supposed to specialize in dermatology. We trusted her words and now he has to suffer from her misdiagnosis and lack of care. She watched it grow with us and ignored the signs. We just switched insurance because I can’t see her face. I would be rude. I want her to pay his bill when he receives it from the surgeon. That’s a joke. South County office off of Griffin Rd., is where the office is in Missouri.

Do not go with Essence Healthcare.
If you're a Medicare patient, and your doctor is not in their network, they will declined your treatment.

Customer service is great when you’re healthy and not generating any spend. But when my 98 yo mother, who had been a long time member, truly needed inpatient rehab or skilled nursing services to rehab because of frequent falls and being unsafe in her own home they were very quick and persistent to deny these medically necessary services.
