I used Kelstar/ longs when I owned. The dealership next to their Fredrick office. Tom and Erin were great. Took care of my business. Tom always told me he’d love to look at my personal policy so years later (late 24) I called and said Tom wanted a swing at my personal policy so let’s look at it. They offered me a price that was reasonable so I canceled my policy and went with their people. Paid up from to get it all going. My home and 4 cars one being an agreed value policy.

A month or so in I get a call saying the company was about to drop me because I hadn’t sent pics of the agreed value vehicle. I explained nobody told me to and I sent them that day. More pictures were requested so I had to dig this vehicle out of the garage and do it. They responded with they don’t offer coverage for lifted trucks with a policy like that and I’d be canceled. The rep sent me down a ton of dead ends for a ton of money and then the companies wouldn’t cover a truck. Nobody seemed to get anything done on my day off so this is occurring during my work hours. I spent a ton of time trying to sort this out. We hit the time the truck wouldn’t be covered so I said just out normal coverage on it while we figure it out. The bill comes and the policy went up in price. I called and was like no I’m not paying more for less coverage. The rep had zero answers. I said I can get a business policy and put the trucks under the business for the right coverage. Nothing really came of it so I called around for quotes at other places. Lots of time wasted with kelstar. I found another company that was about the same cost as the first price and offered all the coverage plus some discounts. They approved the truck and it was done in a day. So I reached out to the rep and asked when I needed to cancel by to not be on the hook another month. We set the cancellation for that and she told me they would send the check from the homeowners policy. Great it’s done….. so I thought. I get a bill from Safeco for a months cost and wrote the rep. They had me on auto bill pay until the cancellation and there were never any billing issues. So i figured this was an error it was a bill generated before the cancellation or something. I emailed the rep at that time making sure everything was good. I had paid in advance for the policy not in the rears so it had to be right? WRONG.

I never heard back from kelstar and today I got a call from a collection agency telling me it’s for Safeco insurance and I owe them money. Can’t get a hold of a rep at any number can’t leave a voicemail in the general box cause the functions don’t work right. I found out when I was canceling that Tom and Erin sold the business about the time I signed up. No wonder this is a mess. They never would have let this happen. All this time now I pay more in insurance that when I left the company I was originally with and will have to deal with this on my work day cause nobody can return a call or email.

It was a huge mistake and I wish I was just told when I was saying I was going there because of my relationship with Tom that he wasn’t a part of it anymore. I would have just stayed where I was. Steer clear of Kelstar and longs unless you like working really hard and wasting a ton of time for brain damage. Can’t wait to see how this turns out.

Worked with Jim Long for years. He was great. Kelstar bought them a few years ago. Nothing but incompetence. Quotes after policies auto renew, nobody answers the phone or calls back, no response to emails.

I've only been with the Long Agency a few months and already would recommend them. There hasn't been a need for them to contact me but they did...with a hand written thank you card and they keep in touch via email. I can't tell you how impressive that is for me since the only thing I received from my pervious agent was a bill. He never sent a card of any kind, even after a serious car accident, never returned my calls and was never in his office. Of course when my renewal came due I heard from him. I said you didn't notice me when I was your client I figured you wouldn't notice if I wasn't.
I am thrilled with the Long Agency, know they are great people and will be there if I need them.
