I had recently purchased a coop apartment in Brooklyn and after closing quickly discovered extensive water damage to the inside of my unit due to long deferred exterior repairs.

The insurance low-balled and delayed at every possible turn. They even pulled the "check is in the mail" trick on our payment. We had to hire a moisture company, an appraiser and an insurance attorney to get to a court appointed umpire during the appraisal process.

In the end we received not only policy limits, but also the additional coverage from policy riders for New York State law.
