Worst part about being a public employee is having PEHP as our health insurance. It's all fine and dandy until you actually need them. Customer service is a joke. I was able to talk to finally talk to someone on the phone, but had to compete with a crying, sick child in the background. I'm all for work life balance, but come on now. Whoever is answering the messages I send through the message center has zero empathy towards my frustrations. I shouldn't expect so much from an insurance company, it's just money money money then deny.

If I could leave ZERO stars, I would. I work at a dental office and have been with the provider and the office for years. PEHP was never great, but what Insurance company is? The last 2 years have been an absolute nightmare. As a matter of fact, while I am writing this, I have been on hold now for over 45 minutes. I have followed all THEIR RULES and sent them two messages with all of the information on our over 54 unpaid, unanswered claims 7 days ago. This is in their new "message center" in their fabulous new portal that does not work. I haven't gotten ANY response. My providers are so livid. They would like a provider relations person to come to our office and explain what the disconnect is between our office and PEHP. We have NEVER had this kind of issue with any insurance company in the over 10 years I have been here. Also, when PEHP does "pay" us, they do not send an email, snail mail, phone call, text, a stork or any other kind of communication to tell us we have been paid! I have asked them repeatedly in an email and they FINALLY admitted they send the providers NOTHING to let them know they have been paid. I have to go into the provider's bank account EVERY DAY to see if we have been paid. Then, I get to go into the fabulous new portal and try to look up which members the payment is for. It is a huge waste of our time trying to find things that should be sent to the providers by the insurance company. On a high note, I haven't had to waste any time lately because it's been MONTHS since we actually have been paid. I love waiting on hold and hearing the man's voice tell me to go to the portal to decrease my wait time and how it does "so much more"! It's now been over 52 minutes and 11 minutes into my lunch time. Well, PEHP, you win this one today. I'm going to have to hang up and waste another hour or two trying to call you on another day. OR, maybe you could use that fabulous new portal to read my message and actually take care of the providers that do the work on your members that pay your salaries. UGH. GROSS.

It’s extremely unfortunate this company provides insurance for state of Utah employees. I don’t know where the shortfall is, but the communication, customer service, and management of this company is very poor. If you need help on the phone, expect to be on the line for hours. If you need help at the end of the fiscal year hoping to get a pre authorized medical device approved before your deductible resets, you’ll find that the preauth team conveniently (for them) doesn’t work that particular day. Again, it’s really unfortunate. My hope is they read the dozens of 1 star reviews and make some changes.

PEHP Personal Experience Horrible Profit... My acronym. Worst insurance company ever since my wife got this insurance she's had nothing but bad experience. She needs a preauth for migraine botox and has been waiting 2 months. Haven't heard anything from PEHP. I called them and told them to send a denial record so I could get my insurance to cover it and STILL NOTHING. WTH. Pathetic

I also wish that I could leave zero stars. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in April. Subsequently, I went to see a dietician about how to reverse this. During my visit with the dietician, I was told that PEHP covers 100% of my costs to see a dietician. WRONG. PEHP paid 0% because I am not full diabetic. This blows my mind. Somehow it is more cost effective for PEHP to let me become diabetic. I guess paying for insulin for the rest of my life makes more sense than paying a bill for $183. Go figure. I know I can't figure it out. By the way, it took half an hour and one dropped call from PEHP to figure all that out. What a joke. Now I am going to get a message from PEHP saying that they're sorry for my inconvenience and I can call someone if I like. Please spare me the hypocrisy and pretend like you care.

I have been waiting for over 6 months for them to review a few claims that they denied because they lost some of my documents. I call them about once a month and every time they say yes we have your documents now, we will reprocess those claims. They have said this at the end of every phone call, and now 6 months later they still haven't done a single thing. They can't manage to do the one single thing that they are paid for. On top of that, the website is terrible and it is very difficult to find what doctors and practices are and are not covered. Whenever I do call PEHP I spend at least 45 minutes on hold, and sometimes closer to 2 hours. They have next to no representatives to help and the ones they do have say they will help and then nothing happens.

PEHP is the most deceived, terrible health insurance company that someone can ever have in a lifetime. I must find an alternative. They are always finding ways to rip you off. If you have the chance to get out of it please do so. The worse health insurance ever!!!

I have waited nearly half a year to get a reimbursement for medical costs, still no update on when the claim will actually be reviewed. In another instance, an emergency C-Section had cost me over $10,000 out of my own pocket while having PEHP for insurance. They are absolutely no help.

(Update: They completely rejected the claim for reimbursement with a variety of absurd reasons. Very glad to be with a new insurance.)
