Alaina of Tongass Treks is such an amazing guide. She found out what we wanted to do around Sitka and went about ensuring that we had the most wonderful experience of Sitka.
We wanted to see as many Waterfalls and do easy trails to enjoy the natural beauty of the forests. Over three different trails and days Alaina came up with a combination of what we wanted to do keeping the weather and bear safety in mind.
It turned out to be one of the best experiences of our whole Alaska trip!
She is also an environment conscious person and we loved that she took care to leave behind no human trace not just by her but even others.
She has a lot of knowledge and experience, being a local, about the forests, flora, fauna of Sitka and we had such a great time when she shared it with us.
We would go back to her anytime and are waiting to visit Sitka again and explore it with her once more!!

Alaina was so good. She shared so much about the Alaskan life and environment all around us. We saw things we’d never dreamed about. She was also very accommodating with our health issues. The private tour was worth every cent - and it really wasn’t that expensive for a private hiking tour. We went to 3-4 different fascinating places around Sitka.

Alaina, Great guide, awesome personality…and she didn’t help my wife push me off the cliff. Would do the hike again. Beautiful day no rain. Even recommended a place to get tasty beer and pizza after the hike. Loved the experience.

Alaina was an amazing guide. I was fortunate to be able to book this experience last minute. The Beaver Lake hike was easily one of the best parts of my Alaskan cruise. I was going back and forth between booking an excursion on my own vs doing one through the cruise line but after speaking with Alaina, the decision was easy. My sister and I truly enjoyed ourselves. Sitka was absolutely magical! I can't recommend it enough.

My wife, daughter and her fiancee did a hike with Alaina around Beaver Lake. The hike was beautiful. We were on a cruise and wanted to get away from the crowds and get a little mud on our boots. Alaina was so accommodating. She picked us up at the dock and dropped us off back in town. She had really great stories about living and growing up in Sitka. She also had incredible knowledge of the local plants and wildlife. She is very responsible and has taken the time (and money) to get all of the required permits. Hiking with her was really just like hike with one of your cool friends. I could not recommend Tongass Treks enough. Thanks for a great time Alaina!!!

We 2 girls from
Holland did a very nice hike with Alaine to the Alpine hut.
Alaine is super professional and shares nice (local) story’s.
We did see a few eagle’s up close After the hike we went to a nice bar for a good beer.
I recommend to go away with Tongass treks and have a very nice guided walk in the beautiful area of Sitka. Thank you again for the great trip!

Alaina was no less than wonderful. Sitka is a small town and the main focus should be to enjoy what nature has to offer and she did just this! The 2 hour hike not tiring and do able for those that go on trails leisurely. She knows the trail so well and has such a pleasant demeanor -esp with our 3 kids aged 11-16. Don’t miss out on what she has to offer. Well worth it!

We were hesitant to pay to go on a hike but so glad we did. With Alaina as our guide on the Herring Cove Trail this was easily one of the best days of our trip. She was accommodating, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to provide us with the best Sitka experience. By the time we had to leave her and return to our cruise it felt like we were leaving one of our friends behind.

Regarding the cost, we were very happy to hear that a portion from each Tongass Treks tour goes back into preserving the trails. It was reassuring to know we were supporting a local company that knows and cares about the land.

The trail itself and the scenery were beautiful. There was some moderate incline and the ground was a bit wet so thankfully we all had hiking boots or at least shoes with good grip.

In summary, couldn't recommend more!
